I am a student of religion, culture and society. This text has come to my hands, I have to read it and translate it for a university report, but my German is very bad. Can you please translate this paragraph for me?

It's about ritual and habit (sociology and culture).

Eine groÃe Nische (Mihrab) gibt die Gebetsrichtung nach Mekka in Arabien an, wo sich das Haupt-
heiligtum des Islams, die Kaaba, befintet; oft steht neben dieser Nische ein Pult (Mimbar) für den Vorbeter. Darstellungen von Menschen sind verboten. Die älteste groÃe Moschee befindet sich in Damaskus. Der Anhänger des Islams, der Muslim, hat bestimmte Pflichten: Er bekennt die Einheit Gottes und daà Mohammed sein Prophet ist. Am Tage soll er fünfmal nach Mekka gewandt beten und am Freitag die Moschee besuchen, Almosen geben und im Monat Ramadan tagsüber fasten. Einmal in seinem Leben soll er den Haddsch. das ist die Pilgerfahrt nack Mekka, antreten. Alkohol und der Genub von Schweinefleisch sind ihm grundsätzlich untersagt.

A big niche shows the direction of prayer to Mekka, a city in Saudi Arabia, where the most holy place in Islam, Kaaba, located. Normally, a desk (Mimbar) is placed beside the niche for the prayer leader (Imam). The oldest big mosque is in Damaskus.The adherent of the Islam, Muslim, carry the specific duties (Pflichten=duty, but in my personal opinion, it is suitable to be called 'pillar'). Testify that there is none worthy of worship except God and testifying that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Pray must be performed five times a day by facing towards the Kaaba. Visiting mosque on friday. Giving alms and fasting in the day time during Ramadan.They should carry out the hajj, it is the pilgrimage to Mecca, at least once in their lifetime. Alcohol and pork products are prohibited.

It is a documentary that criticised Islam as religion. The people in this documentary argue that Islam is NOT a religion of peace. This documentary presents some five speakers that vocally against Islam.
Well, I don't believe this entirely. It should be "cover both side" right?

So I want to know your humble opinion. Thank you.

It would be wise if we just don't make any judgement based on one side. We need to hear other side. Keep open-minded, and be objective.

Samule Philip Huntington - ein Freund G.W.Bushs - brachte 1993 mit seinem Buch "Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order" wieder mal eine These vom Kampf der Kulturen in die Ãffentlichkeit. Sein groÃer Graben verläuft zwischen Christen und Muslimen. Seit dem hat sich die Hetze gegen den Islam verschärft und auch reichlich Reaktionen provoziert.

Vielleicht bin ich da etwas naiv, aber irgendwie kann ich den Unterschied zwischen christlichen und islamischen Fundamentalisten nicht wirklich erkennen.

Wenn ich mir z.B. Typen wie G.W.Bush bzw. wie Osama Bin Laden anschaue...

Die einen finden Gottes Willen in der Bibel, die anderen im Koran. Beide Seiten fühlen sich als Werkzeuge ihres Gottes, fordern blinden Gehorsam und leiten aus Gottes Willen das Recht ab, andere Menschen zu unterdrücken, zu foltern und zu ermorden.

Wie kann ich herausbekommen, auf welche dieser beiden Seiten jetzt die "Guten" und auf welcher die "Bösen" stehen?

auf jeder seite gibt es gut und böse, das kann man nicht pauschalisieren. in beiden fällen sind die leute verblendet, legen ihre schriften falsch aus und bringen viel leid über unschuldige menschen. im endeffekt sind sie alle mörder, egal welcher religion sie angehören.
